AMATYC Volunteer Position
Student Math League Coordinator

AMATYC is searching for a Student Math League (SML) coordinator to succeed the current SML coordinator – Steve Hundert – starting July 1, 2021. Because of the importance of this position, we are seeking to identify the successor in time for a smooth transition, also consisting of some shadowing.

The SML coordinator oversees all activities related to the SML other than test production. The coordinator is the point of contact for AMATYC office personnel, local moderators, the SML test developer, as well as the web manager. Sample duties are the recruitment of and communication with all moderators, compilation of results, and preparation and distribution of regional and overall awards.

Candidates must have excellent organizational and communication skills including great attention to detail, and the ability to work collegially with leaders within the organization. Prior involvement with SML is desired, but not required.

This is a supported position that requires year-round work – some weeks of the year more involved than others. The appointment is for a term of two years, with two additional terms possible. Although the term does not begin until July 1, 2021, AMATYC hopes to identify the successful candidate by December 2020 (or sooner) to allow for a smooth transition.

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, a current resume outlining their qualifications for this position, and a letter of recommendation and support from their immediate supervisor (if currently employed).  Here is a detailed list of the position duties. Candidates should email all materials to the search committee chair, to Eddie Tchertchian, at tchertea@piercecollege.edu by October 19, 2020. However, application materials will be accepted after that date as the position will remain open until filled. Potential candidates may also contact Eddie Tchertchian with any questions.

AMATYC Volunteer Position
Student Research League Coordinator

AMATYC is searching for a Student Research League (SRL) Coordinator to succeed our current coordinator at the end of her term.

The SRL coordinator oversees and manages all aspects of the annual SRL student competition including helping to create the annual challenge problem, recruiting evaluators, overseeing the evaluation of the student work, selecting the student winners, and readying the student awards for presentation.

The successful candidate must have excellent organizational skills including attention to details, written and verbal communication skills, experience with mathematical modeling, and the ability to work collegially with colleagues within and outside the organization.

This is a partially supported position. The initial appointment is for a term of two years, with two additional terms possible. While the initial term does not begin until September 1, 2021, AMATYC hopes to identify the successful candidate during 2020 to allow for a period of mentoring with the current SRL coordinator.

Interested candidates should submit a vita, letter of support from a supervisor, and a personal letter describing their qualifications and experience related to this position. Here is a detailed list of the position duties. Candidates should email all materials to the search committee chair, Jim Ham, at jimham@amatyc.org no later than October 30, 2020.
